On November 29, 1971 the first meeting of a group of people who sought to be known as "Christians only" met in the American Legion Building in the nearby city of Clayton. Individuals from Rabun County who had been traveling to distant Christian Churches in Clarkesville, Cornelia, and Toccoa decided the time was right to have a Christian Church in this Clayton / Mountain City / Dillard / Franklin area. On January 23, 1972 the congregation was formally organized and incorporated as a non-profit group in the state of Georgia.
